Module 8 – Lesson 2
In this lesson you’ll learn:
- The basics of the COREgiving report
- How the COREgiving report helps families begin to develop a legacy of generosity
Introducing the COREgiving Report
Why is the COREgiving assessment important?
The COREgiving report starts by depicting family members’ responses to 12 statements about philanthropy. Scores represent how strongly each person agrees with the statement. The principal couple’s answers are shown individually, while the heirs’ responses are combined into one bar graph.
Next, the COREgiving report shares a bubble graph of the family’s Top 10 Giving Priorities, showing their top-choice charitable organization categories. These categories align with COREvalues, sharing the color designation of the matching core values quadrant.
For example, the category of Arts and Culture is yellow as it falls under the Artistic COREvalues Quadrant. Likewise, Homelessness and Faith Organizations are both green, as they represent the Inspired COREvalues Quadrant and so on.
Finally, the COREgiving report shares written responses to four questions about giving and generosity. Family members are asked to consider how they would like to practically engage in charitable giving and how generosity connects to their family core values. They are also asked to share an example of generosity from their family history, as well as a role model of generosity in their life.
As you lead families through the COREgiving report, your goal is twofold:
- Help them see the unity behind their generosity goals.
- Where are we similar?
- How can we focus on these similarities to build a charitable giving plan?
- Help them understand their personal legacy of giving.
- What shared examples of generosity are part of our history?
- What can we build upon?
- Where can we go from here to continue to grow this legacy?
The COREgiving report can be used:
- With established clients to allow for deeper, more meaningful discussions on philanthropy
- With clients who are looking for tangible ways to resource their core values
- To help clients proactively turn their core value of generosity into an articulated giving plan
- To effectively hear from all members of the family, creating a greater sense of unity and impact
